So…you need a printer. What will it be used for? Do you need to print in color? Will you be printing large volumes every day or once in a while? Will it be for just home-use? Answering these questions will assist in making your decision to choose the correct printer.

If you plan on using it at home, this usually means you will print periodically. Businesses may need to scan, fax, and print so you might be leaning toward an all-in-one. I personally have a Canon all-in-one and Brother Inkjet color printer in my house. I chose a LaserJet all-in-one because I like the fact that it prints quickly.



Difference Between Inkjet Printer & LaserJet Printer

Now you may be wondering what is the difference between Inkjet and LaserJet? One major difference is that inkjet printers use ink cartridges and laser printers use toner. Like my inkjet printer, many have 4 separate cartridges – cyan, magenta, yellow and black. If printing photos, inkjets can produce amazing results.


Laser printers print large volumes quickly, sort of like a copy machine. A benefit of a LaserJet printer is that when it prints, you don’t have to worry about smearing ink with your fingers. When printing with an inkjet, the paper may need a minute or so to dry (yes, I can attest to the smearing of several papers from my personal inkjet printer).


Another issue you may want to think about is the printer repair service. If your home computer needs to be fixed, you will probably have to find someone to either come out to your house to fix it or you will have to drop it off at the shop. If you own a business, more than likely you have chosen a LaserJet printer and someone will come out to repair it. Some shops only work on LaserJet printers so you may want to contemplate purchasing one of those.
